Shirley Monahan, 92, family matriarch, passed away on Monday February 12, 2024 at her home.
Born in Cohoes, she was the daughter to the late Lawrence LeQue and Alice Cutler LeQue and the loving wife to Edward Monahan, who died in 1992.
Prior to retiring, Shirley worked for the Town of North Greenbush as the Deputy Town Clerk.
She was a devoted parishioner of St. Micheal the Archangel Church, and was a Eucharistic Minister bringing home bound parishioners communion. She was the Officer for Missions and Charities for the Troy Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians.
She is survived by her children Colleen (Richard) Paradis of Troy and Brian Monahan of Troy, her grandchildren David (Cindy) Murphy, Sarah (Eddie) Barnes, Elizabeth (Erik) Harris, Lauren (Kyle) Bartlett, Richard Paradis, III and Brianna (Brian Wescott) Paradis, her great grandchildren Jackson, Avery, Zoe, Oliver, Gisele, Carter, Caylin, Presley, Arlo, Vada, Jaimeson, Kaitlyn and Ashley, also survived by several nieces, nephews, friends, Buddy her Grandpuppy and special friend Anna “Banana” Hughes.
In addition to her mother, father and husband Edward, Shirley was predeceased by her daughter Karen Monahan, her granddaughter Cailyn Paradis, and her brothers John (Jack), Donald, and William LeQue.
Shirley was a very active and independent 92 year old. She loved gardening, her swimming pool, warm weather, Cape Cod, going for rides, picking out the perfect gift, decorating for the holidays, going out to lunch with the gang from the town, her home and above all, her faith and family. She was a caring, loving sole who made people laugh with her storytelling. She will be deeply missed.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday February 17, 2024 at St. Michael the Archangel Church 175 Williams Road, Troy. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Troy.
