Robert J. McLaughlin

Wynantskill- Robert J. “Red” McLaughlin, 84, passed away Thursday, October 4, 2018, at Samaritan Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Born on January 7, 1934 in Troy, he was the son of the late John McLaughlin and Helen Moran McLaughlin and the loving husband of 64 years to Joan Champitto McLaughlin.

Robert graduated from Troy High School, he worked in the family business, Champitto’s Food and Equipment Company in Troy for many years as a salesman. He was avid bowler, a New York Yankee fan and he played in the Troy Amateur Baseball League.

In addition to his wife Joan, he is survived by his daughters Nancy LaChance (Ron) of Wynantskill, Joanne Carrey (Lawrence Hurme) of Delaware and Terri Hayner (Bob Ashe) of Wynantskill, his grandchildren, Christian LaChance (Jessica), Ian LaChance (Matthew), Carly Hayner (Justin) and Alexa Hayner (Dan), his great grandchildren, Case LaChance and Jordan Doran, his brother in-law Felix J. Champitto (Mary Ellen), and his former son in-law Marvin Hayner, Jr. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Robert was predeceased by his brothers, John McLaughlin and William McLaughlin, son in-law, Wayne Carrey, and his father in-law and mother in-law Felix and Julia Champitto.

Funeral mass will be celebrated 9:30 am on Monday October 8, 2018 at St. Jude the Apostle Church, 43 Brookside Avenue, Wynantskill. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Troy. Family and friends are invited and may call on Sunday October 7, 2018 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Wynantskill Funeral Home 294 Whiteview Road, Wynantskill.
