Betty J. (Shampine) Keefe

Cohoes - Betty J. Keefe, 87 of Cohoes and Bradenton, Fl., passed away on November 19, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.

Born in the village of Hermon, NY, she was the daughter to the late Willard Shampine and Eva (Garner) Shampine and predeceased by her husband David Keefe, her sister Ruth Connors and Mabel Harris.

She spent her childhood in Troy and Green Island, graduating 3rd in her class from Heatly High School 1951.

Betty began her career as a Bank Teller in Troy.  She was the loving wife of David Keefe for 49 years. Betty was an at home mom to her four children.  Later she worked as a bookkeeper for several local companies and retired from Passonno Paints Watervliet in 1995.

Betty loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.  She enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, knitting and reading a good book.

After retiring Betty and David became snowbirds spending winters in Bradenton, Florida until his passing in 2004. Betty continued going to Florida with her best friend Betty Sandercox and good friend Bob Shellhammer.

She is survived by her children Susan (Greg) Smallwood of Nassau, Linda Keefe of Brunswick, Laura (Francis) Ryan of Eagle Mills, and Brian Keefe of Granville. She is also survived by her grandchildren Barbara Gawlowski, Brian Gawlowski, Matthew Ryan, Kara Ryan, Joshua Keefe, Jackie Keefe, Michelle Keefe and Jessica Keefe and her great grandchildren, Jackson Keefe and Jez Creech.

Calling hours Tuesday November 23, 2021 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Wynantskill Funeral Home, 294 Whiteview Road, Wynantskill. Funeral service Wednesday 10:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Eagle Mills Cemetery.
