Wynantskill-David S. Heyward, 68 passed away on December 27, 2021 at Albany Medical Center surrounded by his loving family after a 10-month battle with colon cancer.
Born and raised in Troy, he was the son of the late Barbara Holland Heyward of Troy and Donald Heyward Sr. of Long Island.
Dave was employed by R.P.I. in Troy for 33 years, retiring in 2017.
David is survived by his wife of 37 years Colleen Mulligan-Heyward, his daughters Katie and Jennie Heyward, his sister Michelle Heyward Cooper, his aunt Virginia Holland, cousins John, Edward, Scott, Thom Holland and his four-legged companion Nukka.
He was predeceased by an infant daughter Megan Heyward, his brother Donald Heyward Jr, his cousin Mark Holland.
Dave was always involved in his daughter’s softball and basketball teams. He coached and was on the board of directors at Classie lassie Softball for many years, also volunteered at the East Greenbush Softball, St. Jude’s basketball and the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society.
David loved spending time with his family, he enjoyed running, hiking, snowshoeing, playing the guitar and gardening.
The family would like to thank the Doctors and Staff at NYOH and Albany Medical Center ICU for their care and compassion given to David.
Family and friends are invited and may call from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday December 30, 2021 at the Wynantskill Funeral Home 294 Whiteview Road, Wynantskill. Funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm at funeral home.
