Snyder’s Lake – Donald Huerter died peacefully in his sleep on August 27, 2023.
He was born to the late Jacob and Janet “Net” (Fraley) Huerter on July 14, 1943, in
Albany. Don was a lifelong resident of Snyder’s Lake, where he lived with his wife of 57 years, Barbara. He is survived by his wife Barbara; son, Donald (Mindy) and daughter, Lisa (William); grandchildren, Tiffany-Hope and Jake Matthew.
He was predeceased by his parents, and his brother Jack (Rita).
Don worked for BASF in Rensselaer for over 30 years as a maintenance engineer.
He was a member of Wynantskill Fire Department for 58 years where he served as Assistant Chief for several years. He was part of the North Greenbush Ambulance squad from 1964 – 1989 and was enlisted in the United States Navy from 1967-1969. Don was also very active at Bailey Mountain Fish and Game Club, where he enjoyed caring for the pheasants. In his younger years, Don enjoyed hunting and riding his snowmobile. In the warmer months, Don could often be found sitting under the red maple tree in his yard, watching the lake and chatting with friends and neighbors.
Family and friends are invited to join us in celebrating his life on Thursday, August 31, from 10 to 12p.m. at the Wynantskill Funeral Home, 294 Whiteview Road, Wynantskill.
