Welcome to the memorial page for

Edward "Ned" J. Fitzgerald

October 27, 1941 ~ January 15, 2018 (age 76) 76 Years Old

Wynantskill-Edward “Ned” Fitzgerald, 76, devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on January 15, 2018 at Albany Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Troy he was the son of Gerald P. Fitzgerald and Marion Eagan Fitzgerald and the loving husband to Rosanne Vielkind Fitzgerald.

In addition to his wife Rosanne, he is survived by his children Maureen (Bob) Long of North Greenbush, Colleen Fitzgerald of Brighton, Michigan, Daniel (Rik Haldeman) Fitzgerald of Albany and Kate Kuhn of Wynantskill, his ten grandchildren Emily, Steven, Delaney, Jackie, Sammie, Griffin, Ava, Mackenzie, Colin and Caley, his siblings Gerald (Roseann) Fitzgerald, Kathleen (Ross) McCabe, Sheila (Jack) Flint, Sarah (Bryan) Rudes, Susan (Tom) Sliva,  Mary (Donnie) Marble and Margaret (Dan DelTorto) Fitzgerald, his brother in law Robert (Susan) Vielkind and his sisters in law Connie (late Bruce) Lord and Vicki (late Ricky) Vielkind, his dear friend Dan O’Connell, also survived by many nieces and nephews. Ned was predeceased by his sister Patricia Barr.

Ned was born in Troy and proud to have grown up on Tenth Street, but also fondly recalled South Troy where he met the love of his life, Rosanne. He and Rosanne made their home in Wynantskill where they lived happily for many years. Ned went to parochial and public schools in Troy and graduated from CCHS in 1959. He served in the NYS National Guard and spent his career in various positions with the State of New York, retiring after over 37 years.

The contributions that Ned made to his family and his community cannot be enumerated. Whenever help was needed, Ned was there: supporting his children or grandchildren’s’ many extracurricular activities, helping relatives and friends in times of need, aiding the poor, caring for the sick, and providing that sage, gentle advice that he would give you that provided you with the comfort you needed, a path forward, and that hug or handshake that let you know that you were loved. Although Ned was involved in many church and community activities, he requested that he be remembered for his love and devotion to his wife, children, and grandchildren.
