Elizabeth (Mamone) Laiacona

Elizabeth (Betty Mamone) Laiacona, 86, of Wynantskill, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2022, at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center in Schenectady, NY. She was the beloved wife and best friend of the late Nicholas J. Laiacona for 52 years. Betty was born in Troy, NY, on May 17, 1935, and was the daughter of Theresa (Daniels) and Nicholas Mamone. She was a graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy, NY, class of 1953. Betty worked for NY Telephone upon graduation and left in 1958 to raise her family for the next 20 years. She returned to NY Telephone in 1978 and retired from Bell Atlantic in 1998. Betty had many friends at work, and she loved her monthly breakfasts at Cracker Barrel after retirement. Betty enjoyed many activities including sewing, knitting, bowling with Tuesday Strikers for 40+ years, playing cards for 40+ years, golfing with the ladies, and hosting family dinners--especially Christmas Eve. She was a member of East Side Seniors and enjoyed many trips and playing bocce. She was a member of the Troy Elks and served as secretary of the Ladies Auxiliary for 4 years. She enjoyed many parties there and also worked many charity dinners. Betty will be greatly missed by her children, Cathy (George) Mahserjian of Malta, NY, Kim (Al) Rigaud of Las Vegas, NV, and Tom (Patti) Laiacona of Rexford, NY. She leaves behind her 5 grandchildren whom she adored, Danielle, Celine & Tami Laiacona and Ian & Alexa Mahserjian. She also is survived by her sister Jean McGrath of Rochester, NH, and many nieces and nephews. Betty was predeceased by her sisters, Carm Hull, Rosemary Parsley and Victoria Dunson.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association of Northeastern New York, 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 405, Albany, NY 12205, or at www.ALZ.org Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Monday February 28, 2022 at St. Jude the Apostle Church, 43 Brookside Avenue, Wynantskill.
