Francis X. Conron, Jr. died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, March 13, 2017. His family was by his side throughout his final illness. He was born on October 29, 1933, in Buffalo, a son of the late Francis X. Conron, Sr. and Marcella Shuttleworth Conron. Frank graduated from LaSalle Institute in Troy in 1951 and enjoyed regular lunches and keeping in touch with old classmates. He joined the Franciscan Friars and graduated cum laude from St. Francis Seminary in Staten Island in 1953. He attended St. Bonaventure University, and completed graduate studies in Theology and Philosophy at St. Anthony-on-Hudson Seminary in Rensselaer. After receiving a papal indult, he graduated from Siena College in 1960. He earned a Master’s Degree in Library Science at the University at Albany in 1966 and completed further graduate studies in philosophy. Frank’s great love of books shows in his 32-year career as a librarian, beginning at the University Libraries and retiring in 1995 as a senior reference librarian at the New York State Library. He was also a member of the Board of Trustees of the North Greenbush Public Library for more than 25 years and was a past Treasurer of the Library.
Frank was a parishioner of St. Jude’s Church in Wynantskill. He was elected to the Parish Council, taught the 7th grade CCD class for 24 years, was a counselor in the church’s marriage preparation program, and served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector for many years.
Frank was a loving husband to Leanne Malone for more than 52 years. Frank and Leanne had two daughters, Anne-Marie (Michael) Malak of North Greenbush and Martha Goss of Grafton, and three grandchildren, Ashleigh and Mason Goss, and Andrew Malak. Frank loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed researching family geneaology and loved the trip he and Leanne took to Ireland.
He loved reading and music and was a longtime supporter of the Albany Symphony Orchestra. He enjoyed working on his computer and was a member of the Bethlehem Library Computer Club.
Frank is also survived by his brother, Michael (Madelyn) Conron of Maryland, and sisters Jane Conron, Marcia (late Frank) Dow, and Sr. Patricia Conron, CSJ, all of Colonie, and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held from 9:00am to 10:45am on Saturday, March 18, 2017, at St. Jude’s Church, on Brookside Avenue in Wynantskill. A funeral mass will follow at 11:00am.
