Frank J. Lyons

Frank J. “Dank” Lyons, age 99 of Wynantskill, passed away on September 11, 2022, after a long illness.

He was born in West Chazy, New York, on December 23, 1922. He was the son of Frank J. and Mae (Hewson) Lyons. He grew up in Green Island, graduating from Heatly High School.

Frank was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Emma (Solini) Lyons, his son Michael R. Lyons, and his three sisters Betty (Hugh) Geyser, Frances “Peachy” (Thomas) Jones, and Patricia (Jack) Houle, and a brother Landis (Lucy) Lyons.

Frank joined the Navy during WWII volunteering for a PT Boat squadron, serving as a machinist mate first class in the North Atlantic, Mediterranean, and Pacific theatres. Upon leaving the service he began working at the Watervliet Arsenal in various positions including Quality Control and Quality Assurance.

Both positions found him travelling throughout the country to various proving grounds and gun tube manufacturers.

He and Emma lived in Watervliet until 1956, when they moved to Wynantskill. They enjoyed travelling to Cape Cod and Florida. Frank was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Community in Wynantskill, and a member of the Knights of St. Jude. Being very artistic, he had many hobbies including woodworking, oil

and acrylic painting and stained-glass work. He was never far from his sketchpad. He also enjoyed watching the Celtics and Yankees.

He leaves a loving family including his daughter in law Martha (Glasheen) Lyons, three granddaughters Sara (Michael) Stecyk, Meghan (John) Lockwood, Emily (Dustin) Manny, six great-grandsons Michael, Peter, Cooper, Sawyer, Dean, Rocco, and a number of Lyons and Solini nieces and nephews. Frank’s last years were made fuller by the companionship of Helen Connery for which his family is very grateful.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Our Lady of Mercy for their kind attention to Dad’s needs.

Friends and family are invited to the calling hour from 10 – 11 a.m. at the Wynantskill Funeral Home on Friday, September 16, 2022. A memorial service will be held immediately following. Interment will be in the St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Watervliet.
