Gretchen M. Ryan, 72 of Cooksboro passed away peacefully, at her family’s homestead, with her family by her side on September 5, 2024.
Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Eunice Ryan.
Gretchen was a graduate of Tamarac High School, where she was voted most athletic female, class of 1970.
Gretchen worshipped in and worked for the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, in Albany. She worked at the Troy Record and Alchar printing in Troy. She retired in 2019.
Gretchen loved sports and was a lifelong Yankees fan. She organized several bus trips to Yankee games through the years. Gretchen played women’s softball through her fifties.
She was a member of the Capitals, a team that played in the Empire State Senior Games. She traveled with her team to Kentucky, Virginia, Ohio and Louisiana. Survivors include four brothers, Donald Wilcox of Pittstown, Charles Ryan of Clifton Park, Keith Ryan (Francine) of Rochester and Dale Ryan (Laura) of Cooksboro; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to her friend Elaine, care givers Danielle and Brittany, as well as Chris and the members of the Capitals.
Services and interment will be private at the Maplewood cemetery in Cooksboro.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Gretchen’s memory may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
