Wynantskill-On Thursday November 17, 2022, our dearly loved mother, Harriet Isabel Gray, passed from this earth at age 92. As a very independent, strong woman, she became one of the first woman toll collectors for the New York State Thruway, working for over 25 years. As a staunch union supporter, she was steward of her local Teamsters Union for a number of years.
Mom had an adventurous spirit, and instilled the love of travel in us as well. Throughout her life, she journeyed from the East Coast, to the West Coast, to Canada, Mexico, and even to the cliffs of Ireland. She traveled with Grandma, us, the Red Hats, Wynantskill Seniors, East Side Seniors, making friends along the way.
Mom is best known for her honesty, humor, understanding, fierce determination, pragmatism, and love of sweets! She was a woman born before her time. She is survived by her children, Freida, Fred (spouse) Ellen, Lois, and Steven (spouse) Teresa, her sister Barbara, nieces Janet and Gloria, seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
Her Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Wynantskill Funeral Home on 294 Whiteview Rd, with a reception at the Wynantskill American Legion on 111 Main Ave.
In lieu of giving flowers, we ask that those who are able instead make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.
