John F. Bentley, 71, of Troy, died suddenly of natural causes in Ithaca, NY, on October 11, 2024.
John was born in Gowanda, NY, on May 26, 1953 to Charles Bentley and Mildred Schaller Bentley. He attended Pine Valley Central School before studying accounting at Ithaca College. John retired from New York State Taxation and Finance in 2008 after 30 years of civil service. He was a trivia connoisseur, an avid NY Yankees fan, and a lover of music and good scotch. He also enjoyed tracking hurricanes and keeping tabs on earthquakes around the world.
John was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Mildred Bentley.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Carol Gorsky Bentley, his two daughters, Alicia and Leanne Bentley, and his four sisters, Anne (Mike) Downs, Jean Onasch, Dorothy (Edward) Ambis, and Helen Hyatt. He will be dearly missed.
Family and friends are invited and may call from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday October 17, 2024 at the Wynantskill Funeral Home, 294 Whiteview Road, Wynantskill. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:30 am on Friday October 18, 2024 at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 175 Williams Road, Troy. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Greenwich.
