Wynantskill-John William “Butch” Greaves III, 82, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025 at Albany Medical Center after a very long illness.
A life-long resident of Wynantskill and veteran of the U. S. Air Force Air Police, serving at Spangdahlem Air Base in Spangdahlem, Germany.
John is survived by his wife Eileen, his daughter Dr. Kerry Greaves, of Copenhagen, Denmark grandson Rune Greaves of Copenhagen, Denmark and son, John William Greaves IV of Queensbury NY as well as his sister Susan (Russell) Haight, and numerous brothers and sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents John William Greaves II and Helen Spain Greaves, and sister Nancy (Daniel) Abatto.
A graduate of Troy High School, John worked at General Electric in Schenectady for 45 years as an electrician and was a longtime parishioner of St. Jude the Apostle Church in Wynantskill. Always a lover of a good joke and making those around him laugh, John was a steadfast fan of the Yankees, and was a highly skilled craftsman who could fix any house or car problem, often helping out family and friends with his talents.
A visitation with family will be held at St. Jude Apostle Church on Brookside Avenue from 9:30 am to 10:30 am on Monday November 17, 2025 with a mass of Christian burial following at 10:30 am. Burial will take place at the Gerald B. H Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville NY.
