It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph William Sellman, who left this world peacefully on Wednesday October 18, 2023 at Albany Medical Center with his family by his side.
Joe was born December 15, 1949, to George Sellman Sr. and Mary Deegan in Troy, NY and grew up in the Beman Park neighborhood. Joe spent his entire life in the area, living in Troy and then settling in Wynantskill with his wife Jeanne to raise their son Derek.
Joe was a graduate of the Lasalle Institute of Troy. He became a painter beginning his long career working for Sage Brothers, before opening Sellman/Buckley painting with his dear friend which they ran for many years. Joe finished his career working for the Troy Housing Authority.
Joe will be remembered for his humor and zeal for life most of all. He could always be counted on to lend a hand or know a guy for whatever you needed. He livened up every conversation and offered a listening ear and some classic Joey Sellman wisdom, usually over some Coors Lights. Above all, Joe loved his friends and family. He was a proud father and grandfather, always quick to brag about their accomplishments big or small. A lifelong hockey fan, Joe enjoyed sharing his favorite pastime. First teaching and coaching his son Derek in his youth, then watching his grandsons learn to skate, and taking them to their first Bruins game. Above all, Joe loved his friends and family and will be deeply missed by many.
Joe is predeceased by his beloved wife Jeanne (Tenzyk), his parents, and his brother William Sellman. Joe leaves behind his son Derek (Emily), their two children, his grandsons, James and Benjamin, and his brother George Sellman Jr. (Dorothy), and many dear friends.
A wake will be held Tuesday October 24th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Wynantskill Funeral Home 294 Whiteview Road, Wynantskill. Friends and family are invited to join in remembrance, and to share stories and memories.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Albany Medical College Anatomical Gift Program.
