Judy M. (Gundrum) LaPlante

Judy M. LaPlante (Gundrum) 77, of Wynantskill died Thursday October 10, 2024, at her residence after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Troy, Judy was the daughter of the late Mae E. (Leroy) and Wallce G. Puffer, Jr. and the late Earl R. Gundrum.  She was a life-long resident of Wynantskill, educated in Wynantskill Schools and was a 1965 graduate of Troy High School.

Judy worked at Dec-O-World in North Greenbush for many years where her passion for crafting was put to good use. From decorating Christmas trees with just the perfect number of lights to making bows and arranging flowers, her glue gun was in regular use.

Judy worked at Russell Sage College in Troy for many years until her retirement. Her knowledge of the history of the college was astonishing and she was very proud of her time there and continued to keep in contact with her colleagues and many students that live all over the world.

She was also an Avon Representative for 45 years, where she received multiple Presidents Club awards that recognize top performers in sales and leadership. Throughout the years in her down time Judy enjoyed making dollhouses, Halloween costumes, cross stitching, ceramics, Christmas ornaments and Legos to name just a few. She was a cub scout den mother, played softball and loved going to the camp in Willsboro and vacations to Florida with family. Her pride and joy were her grandsons Joe and Sam, she lit up when she was with them and would talk about them to anyone who would listen.

Judy may have only had 2 children, but she was a second mom to so many through the years. Her door was always open if you needed a coffee or just someone to talk to without judgment.

The family would like to acknowledge two very important people who were a special part of her life, Theresa Quell and Steven Henry.

Survivors include a daughter Kimberly L. Demarest (the late David), two grandsons Joseph R. and Samuel G. Demarest all of Wynantskill. Including her parents, Judy was predeceased by her son Matthew M. LaPlante (Tammy), her son in law David R. Demarest and her former husband George L. LaPlante, Jr.

Relatives and friends may call at the Wynantskill Funeral Home, 294 Whiteview Road, Wynantskill on Wednesday October 16, 2024 from 4-7 PM.  Funeral will be private at a later date.
