Troy-Karen Flynn Caola has faithfully departed this life leaving a void in all the lives she touched all along her years on July 13, 2022. Born to loving caring parents, the late Tom and Phyllis Flynn, at the edge of war, when neighborhoods cared for each and every person, she learned at a young age from this very environment about what it takes to build and recognize quality of character in people.
She was a communicant of St. Francis de Sales Church on Ida Hill and attended that parish’s grammar school. She joined every group young girls enjoyed and had fond memories of skating on Belden’s Pond, swimming in Prospect Park Pool, roller skating on all of the sidewalks on Congress Street to a relatives or friend’s house on every block, and enjoyed singing in the choir in the loft of the busy Albany train station at Christmastime.
She attended Catholic Central High School Class of ’62 and worked as a student at Nelligan’s Bakery. She then became a toll operator at New York Telephone, then graduated top her class from Albany Medical School of Licensed Nursing and became camp nurse for Troy Housing Authority, where she retired as a Senior Administrative Assistant.
She was founding member of the Prospect Park Reunion in 2010, running for 10 years. She was a Street Soldier, a friend to all in need and always showed kindness to all, she loved and supported all animal causes. She loved kayaking with her friends and the New York Yankees.
Karen is survived by her two sons Ransen and Daniel (Shawn) Caola, her brother Tom (Tracy Nold) Flynn, her nephew Michael Flynn, her niece Layla (Bill) Stubblebine, her great niece Mia, also survived by cousins, many friends and neighbors who help her lovingly and attentively in her time of need. Many Thanks to all.
All are invited to a funeral mass at 11:00 am on Monday July 18, 20022 at Our Lady of Victory Church, 55 North Lake Avenue, Troy. Burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Troy.
