Norma (Robertiello) Slusarz

Norma Slusarz, 97, of Lakeland Florida formerly of Plant City Florida and Amsterdam New York passed away peacefully on May 7, 2022.  Born on September 25, 1924 to Felix and Josephine Robertiello she attended Saint Mary’s Catholic School, was a graduate of the College of Saint Rose and received her master’s degree from the State University of New York at Albany.

Before retiring to Florida, Norma was a lifelong resident of Amsterdam retiring from the Greater Amsterdam School District in 1986 after a long teaching and guidance counseling career.  After retirement she moved to Florida enjoying the warm weather, golf, and many friends for over 25 years.

She was the wife of Joseph Slusarz who she married in 1947 and who passed away in 1977.  Norma never remarried. She is survived by one son, Michael Slusarz and three grandchildren, Michael, Brian and Kevin Slusarz

Among her many pastimes were volunteer activities in a number of community and civic organizations including the Emblem Club where she was club president and worked on many committees, the Knights of Columbus Columbiette Auxiliary, a member of the Bishop Scully Ladies Auxiliary, the New York State Personnel and Guidance Association and the March of Dimes.  She was also very active parishioner of Saint Mary’s Church.,

She was a member of the Saint Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary and a past president of that organization.  After moving to Florida, she continued her volunteer activities with a number of libraries, youth organizations, hospitals, schools and the annual Plant City Strawberry Festival.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed reading, writing, music, golf, sporting events and her grandchildren very much.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, May 13, 2022 at 11am at Saint Mary’s Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam. Followed by burial at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Fort Johnson.
