Peter (“St. Peter”) Wiegand lost his valiant battle against COPD and Pulmonary Fibrosis on Thanksgiving morning, November 23rd.
Born in Germany on May 27, 1943, Peter immigrated to Pittsburgh, PA as a teenager joining his mother after her immigration. He later resided in Torrance, CA then Lompoc, CA before settling in Wynantskill, NY with his wife Eileen, originally from Troy, NY.
A tool and die maker by trade, Peter was dedicated to his trade working six and seven days a week for his entire career. He worked independently and supplied corporations such as Excelta with his expert tools. Though his trade provided a good living, it was also the culprit of the disease which he succumbed to.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Peter and his loving wife Eileen met in 1988 in Torrance, CA. They married in 1990 with Eileen’s four children by their side. Though grown, Peter treated each of them as his own, and so appreciated his new family. Peter was an incredible self-sacrificing man who lovingly tended to his wife, always provided love and support to his step-children, was Opa to his adored grandchildren, and was proud to be a great-grandpa.
He was a long-time member of the Elks Lodge in San Pedro, CA; Lompoc, CA; and Brunswick, NY. Peter served as a Trustee, Chaplain, and Inner Guard at Lompoc Elks and enjoyed volunteering at several Elk-sponsored BBQ events and represented the Elks at the annual Flower Festival.
Peter leaves his wife of 33 years, Eileen (Smith) Wiegand; step-children Erin Sides (Brian), Jennifer Gulino, Mary Collins (Michael), Ryan Gulino (Sharon); grandchildren Morgan Stampfli (Gabriele), John Stampfli (Jessica), Emily Barrette, Matthew Barrette, Kristen Gulino, Anthony Gulino; and great-grandson Warren Stampfli. He will be dearly missed.
Family and friends are invited from 2:00 to 4:00 pm with funeral service to follow at 4:00 pm all on Monday December 4, 2023 at the Wynantskill Funeral Home, 294 Whiteview Road, Wynantskill, NY.
