Roger W. Alley

Roger W. Alley, 77, of Wynantskill, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026, at Samaritan Hospital, surrounded by love.

Born in Casco, Maine, Roger was the son of the late William Clark Alley and Edna Durling Alley. He was the devoted husband of Joelle McKee Alley and a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Roger proudly served in the United States Navy from 1967 to 1972, where he worked in the Hospital Corps. He took great pride in caring for others and often spoke about how much he learned and how meaningful it was to help people during their most vulnerable moments.

Following his military service, Roger built a long and dedicated career as an auditor and department director with the New York State Department of Tax & Finance.

Above all else, Roger valued his family. He is survived by his wife, Joelle; his son, Brian McKee Alley; his grandchildren, Matthew McCann, Morgan Alley, and Camryn Alley; and his great-grandchildren, Jaxon McCann and Daisy McCann.

He was predeceased by his parents and his sisters, Donna Travaglin, V. Susan Ellis, and Kim Plante.

Roger had a witty, mischievous sense of humor and a knack for storytelling. He loved sharing tales of his childhood and adolescence in Maine and Connecticut and took pride in his family’s lineage. An avid lover of cars, he owned a plethora of them (much to his wife’s chagrin), and always enjoyed driving them while taking great pride in their styling, maintenance, and value.

He spent countless hours outdoors working on home projects, building barns, carports, and tackling various carpentry efforts. He also cherished the company of his cats and took great joy in the companionship of Dundee, Tigger, Jasper, and Max over the years.

Known for his wit, sensibility, strong opinions, and generous heart, Roger never missed an opportunity to make those around him smile. Whether through a well-timed joke, a memorable story, or a playful prank, he brought laughter and warmth into the lives of those he loved. His stubborn charm, deep loyalty, and unmistakable presence will be thought of often and deeply missed.

Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, February 8, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Wynantskill Funeral Home, 294 Whiteview Road, Wynantskill, NY.
