Ronald Jude LoMaestro passed away suddenly at his home in Latham on Monday, December 22, 2025. He was born on August 15, 1964, in Albany, New York, to Lubov Otrok-Govoruha and Benjamin J. LoMaestro.
Ron grew up in North Greenbush and was a graduate of Columbia High School. He and his family were among the original founders and members of the Wildwood Program. Throughout his life, Ron’s mother was his strongest advocate, ensuring he had every opportunity to live with independence and dignity. Fiercely independent by nature, Ron earned his New York State driver’s license on his first attempt. He was employed by the New York State Office of General Services and UniFirst.
Ron is survived by his loving mother, Lubov LoMaestro of Troy, New York; his sister and brother-in-law, Lisa and Markus Silvestri of Fairport, New York; his brother and sister-in-law, John and Laurie LoMaestro of Loudonville, New York; his niece, Alexandra LoMaestro of Austin, Texas; and many cousins.
He was predeceased by his father, Benjamin J. LoMaestro; his brother, Benjamin J. LoMaestro Jr.; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Ron had a deep appreciation for life and found joy in everyday experiences. He was especially known for his love of coffee, particularly Dunkin’ Donuts, along with donuts, milkshakes, movies, and popcorn. Ron enjoyed giving mechanical advice, especially about furnaces, and was always eager to explain how things worked. He was great at taking things apart, though not always at putting them back together, and firmly believed that cars today simply are not made the way they used to be.
An observant and curious soul, Ron loved striking up conversations with strangers and had a fondness for animals, especially dogs and turkeys. He embraced adventure with enthusiasm and enjoyed traveling with family and friends, whether visiting farmers’ markets and festivals, exploring Vermont and the Adirondacks, or enjoying winter trips to Lake George and Lake Placid.
Ron will be remembered for his independence, humor, curiosity, and genuine love of people and life’s simple pleasures. He brought warmth, laughter, and perspective to those around him and will be deeply missed.
Family and friends are invited and may call from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with funeral service at 7:00 pm all on Monday January 5, 2026 at the Wynantskill Funeral Home, 294 Whiteview Road, Wynantskill. Burial will be private at the Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Ron’s spirit by showing kindness to someone with intellectual challenges, perhaps by taking them on an outing, giving them a ride, doing a craft together, or simply spending time. If desired, donations may be made to the Parkinson Foundation, 5757 Waterford District Drive, Suite 310, Miami, Florida 33126, or at www.parkinson.org.
