Stephen Andrew Olchowy

Wynantskill, Stephen Andrew Olchowy, 74, passed away peacefully after a long battle with Parkinson’s on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at Van Rensselaer Manor.

Stephen was born April 2, 1947 in Troy, NY, the son of the late Stephen and Mary (Mosiuk) Olchowy and was raised in Wynantskill.  He was a graduate of Averill Park High School and was a machinist at GE Turbine in Schenectady, NY.

Stephen could always be found outdoors enjoying activities with friends and family during any of the four seasons. From ice fishing and snowmobiling, to coaching his children’s baseball and softball teams and throwing pool parties, to gardening in his vegetable and flower gardens, to participating in fishing contests with his family and Captain Bob on Lake Champlain and Lake Lonely or spending a day at the races in Saratoga and Racino with his buddies, to deer hunting with his father, son, and nephews. Stephen passed on his love of the outdoors to his family.

Stephen is survived by his loving wife Donna (Snyder) of 52 years, his son Christopher (Summer) Olchowy of Colorado, daughter Megan Olchowy of South Carolina, and grandchildren Chelsea and Tyler Olchowy of Colorado. His sisters Dorothy (Paul) Mohl and Patricia (Jack) Miorin both of Wynantskill and is survived by many nieces and nephews that will remember him as “Unkie”.

The family would like to recognize and sincerely thank all the staff at Van Rensselaer Manor, especially the B3 wing nurses and aides who cared for Stephen with compassion and patience.  He had a big sense of humor and kept everyone laughing.  Additional appreciation to the Activities staff who kept Stephen busy with bingo, resident trips, ice cream socials, concerts, and holiday parties.  We appreciate everything you did for Stephen, and for keeping him out of trouble.

Friends and relatives may visit with his family at the Wynantskill Funeral Home, 294 Whiteview Road, Wynantskill, NY on Friday, April 30, 2021 from 5-7 p.m.   Funeral Mass on Saturday, May 1st at 9:30 a.m., St. Jude Apostle Church, 43 Brookside Avenue, Wynantskill, NY.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Troy.
