Theodore D. Keefe, 77, of Averill Park, New York, passed away on April 23rd, 2025 from pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his wife Janet, their sons Sean, Cody and their families. He also leaves behind his nieces, nephews and two sisters. Ted was a gifted athlete throughout high school. He played varsity football, wrestling and pitched for his baseball team. After graduating, he went directly into the Peace Corps at the age of seventeen. Ted spent the next two and a half years in Sierra Leone building schools, water systems and digging wells for the local community.
Upon returning to the United States, Ted was drafted into the army and went on active duty in both Vietnam and Korea. He followed his military service with twenty years in the National Guard. Ted graduated from Hudson Valley Community College with a degree in Environmental Technology. He worked for Sterling Winthrop, then later retired from the City of Troy as the Superintendent of the Department of Public Works and Recreation in 2002.
Ted was a man with many passions and a provider for his family. As a loving dedicated Father and Grandfather his family always knew that whatever would come, his unfailing quiet stoicism and support was a bulwark against the storm. His garden continually produced abundance, due to his efforts of vigilance in annihilating any groundhog foolish enough to poke its nose into his realm. Bass throughout the area feared the plunk of his lure on the water, and venison was never in short supply in his freezer.
Ted logged countless miles on the golf courses throughout the East Coast. He was also at home slogging through the mud, tossing a caber at the Scottish festival, and hoisting a pint with his buddies at the Emerald club. The many honors of Ted's life include the privilege of serving at the 1980 Olympics in the lab, testing the athletes.
Ted was truly a man for all seasons. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.....
