Troy-William J. Bennett Jr., 82, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at Van Rensselaer Manor surrounded by his family. A lifelong resident of Troy, he was the son of the late William J. Bennett Sr. and Elizabeth Phillips Bennett.
Bill was the devoted husband to the late Marilyn Graber Bennett (2006), with whom he shared many wonderful years. From high school sweethearts to raising three children together, Bill truly cherished the time he spent with Marilyn and looked forward to being reunited. As a father and grandfather, he was known for his kind heart, strong work ethic, and quiet wisdom. He spent many years working as a papermaker at Manning/Lydall Specialty Paper in Green Island and took pride in providing for his family.
As a young man, Bill enjoyed spending time at the local fire station, where he shared many hours with dear friends. His family grew accustomed to the sounds of his Fire and Police scanners, which were some of his prized possessions. As he got older, Bill especially enjoyed listening to his grandson, Thomas, and the Troy Fire Department. He loved sharing and laughing over a good story and keeping up on current events around the world. Most of all, Bill, cherished his time spent with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren to whom he was affectionately referred to as “Pop”.
